How did Roman Nose die?

Roman Nose, the great Cheyenne warrior, was shot and killed at the Battle of Beecher Island in 1868. He had a premonition that he would die as he believed that his magic powers had been tampered with. Roman Nose had a very elaborate war-bonnet that he believed would protect him in battle. A few days prior to his death, Roman Nose attended a feast given by the Sioux. At that feast, a piece of bread was served to him using an iron fork; this violated one of the conditions of his medicine. As he had no time to perform the necessary ritual purification, he decided to sit out the Battle of Beecher Island, watching from a distance. But spurred into action by a tribal elder, Roman Nose donned his famous war-bonnet and entered the fray, knowing that the day would be his last.
