Estella is very pretty but cruel. She treats Pip like the "common, laboring boy" she believes him to be. On his first visit to Satis House she is particularly unpleasant to the poor little chap, treating him with haughty disdain, mocking the way he talks and the slovenliness of his general appearance. As Pip is getting ready to go home, Miss Havisham instructs Estella to give him some food, which she duly does—only she leaves it outside on the porch as if she were feeding some half-starved animal. Naturally, Pip is not pleased. In fact, he is heartbroken. Estella is beautiful and he already has quite a crush on her, but she treats him so badly it makes him want to cry. And he does.
Estella, as we might expect, is positively tickled pink at Pip's reaction. We now know just what kind of a person she is: cold, cruel, and almost sadistic. But we also know from Pip's dreams that very night that he is still completely smitten with her and that, from that moment on, both their lives will never be the same again.

What was Estella's reaction to Pip crying?
