I think the Ghost of Christmas Past most certainly reveals the first theme the most: You cannot change the past, but you can learn from it. For example, when Scrooge sees himself in the past as a lonely boy, he cries and thinks of the poor young boy who had sung a carol at his door looking for a coin. He'd scared the boy away and now wishes that he could give the boy something. He cannot change his own past, but he could certainly treat others who suffer more generously. Or, when he sees his young self as an apprentice at Fezziwig's, he realizes how much difference a kindly boss can make to his employees, and he suddenly wishes that he could speak to Bob Cratchit, his own employee, whose life he has not exactly made easier. Again, he cannot change his past behavior to Bob, but he recognizes that he can do more now. Finally, his heart seems to break when he witnesses the memory of his break-up with Belle; though he can do nothing to change the past, he now realizes that he is terribly alone and that this state is his own doing. He will try, later in the story, to surround himself with people because he realizes that helping others and having relationships with them can be fulfilling and make him happy. Scrooge learns from his past how he can make both other people and himself more fulfilled and content.
