There really is no single type of society that is ideal for every person. Instead, many writers have imagined different ideal societies reflecting their different values and personal tastes.
Most ideal societies have a high standard of universal medical care and offer at least the basic necessities of food, clothing, and shelter to all citizens. Provision of these basic physical necessities is a precondition to human flourishing.
Some writers see a state close to nature as ideal, admiring the "noble savage" and advocating a life in small villages in which people can live in harmony with their physical environment. For many Native Americans, an ideal society is one in harmony with the natural world.
On the opposite end of the spectrum, Jane Jacobs sees cities and urban living as preconditions of human flourishing and argues that neighborhoods encouraging organic development and growth of community are ideal.
Bentham and the Utilitarians believe in "the greatest good of the greatest number" and approve of rationally organized societies with legal codes ensuring fairness and a democratic political system with strong elements of meritocracy. Although Mill had many political ideas in common with Bentham, he placed a greater emphasis on liberty and the arts as parts of human well-being.
Marx's ideal society is one in which work is meaningful rather than dehumanizing, and rather than wealth taking the form of unequally distributed personal property, it is instead is used to ensure the availability of basic necessities for all people.
