Confucianism contributes to social harmony. It emphasizes filial piety, duty, respect for elders and those in authority, and moral conduct. Confucianism encourages members of society to fulfill their social obligations. These obligations include the following: contributing to society through one's labor, taking care of one's family (especially children and parents), and engaging in charitable acts such as giving to the poor.
Shintoism helps people stay connected to traditional ways of life. It includes respect for nature, harmonizing with one's environment, and staying connected to the past through rituals such as divination and ancestor veneration. Shintoism provides a cohesive narrative linking the past to the present and the future. It helps society stay true to the deep values it has carried for centuries, even as that society continues to change and adapt to the challenges of modern life.
Sikhism encourages nonviolence and cooperation. It provides models for a highly devoted spiritual life. Sikhism encourages members of society to serve the greater good. It emphasizes compassion and love while discouraging vanity, arrogance, and selfishness.
