Who was Christopher Colombus?

Christopher Columbus was an Italian explorer from the city of Genoa. European nations in the late 15th century competed for trade routes of the lucrative spice trade with Asia, and suitable harbors for their ships. Portuguese and Spanish traders were particularly well located to launch expeditions, but the trade routes around Africa were  considered long and expensive. 
The merchant Columbus lobbied various European leaders for funding to find a shorter Western route before receiving permission from Ferdinand and Isabella, who just united Spain. Columbus made 4 voyages between 1492 and 1498 in what is now called the Caribbean. Later explorers, traders, conquerors, and colonists followed up on his discover and Columbus is now credited with discovering America.

He led three ships from Spain to Asian nations, and then to the Americas in order to expand economy and invade these nations. He also realised that there was gold and other attractions in the nations across the Atlantic. This process can also be called colonisation, and since Colombus was involved in a war with the Muslims, he can be said to be a coloniser of both nation and religion.

Competition for trade and trade routes was high at the time with different European territories hoping to find an alternative route that would give them an upper hand over their competitors. Columbus’s idea was at first dismissed, but after further considerations, the monarch of Spain agreed to fund the voyage. Spain saw it as an opportunity to open new trade routes with Asia in order to continue promoting the spice trade, which was very lucrative in Europe.
Christopher is credited with the documenting of routes to the Americas by traveling westward from Europe. He initiated European exploration and eventual colonization of the Americas. Accusations against him include genocide that he sanctioned and perpetrated against the Natives of the New World. Additionally, he has also been accused of establishing the transatlantic slave trade that led to the arrival of millions of slaves to the New World.
