What news does the milk seller share?

The milk seller tells Jemmy that the prince has been abducted. Jemmy is accompanied by the prince, although nobody as yet recognizes him as such. The milk seller says that the King is forlorn over the prince’s disappearance and that he must surely be “crying his royal eyes out,” though why he should weep for the little prince, who’s really an imp and a pain in the neck, is beyond most of the townspeople. The milk seller refers to the missing prince as “Prince Brat,” and says that the town will be pitied the day that he ascends to the throne. These words shock the prince, who realizes how people perceive him for the first time. Afterward, he complains to Jemmy about the milk seller’s sentiments. He feels that her words are “treasonous,” because they touch on his character. He is not used to criticism of this form.
Jemmy and the prince find themselves on the streets following the prince’s impulsive idea to run away from the palace. The prince is learning lots about life away from the riches and comforts of the palace. Although Jemmy really wants to be rid of the entitled prince, he finds himself unable to do so. Instead, he strives to protect and take care of the prince.
