How does Behrman look in the beginning of the story "The Last Leaf"?

The first mention of Behrman in the story “The Last Leaf” happens when Johnsy thinks to call him up to their house, at the top of the building, so that she can make a painting of him. Behrman is also a painter and lives on the first floor of the same building that Sue and Johnsy live in. He is over sixty years old and has never had much success in his painting career. In fact, he has never painted a good picture in about forty years. He sustains himself by posing for fellow painters.
Sue finds Behrman in his dark apartment, drunk. She tells him about the sick Johnsy, and how she has decided that she must die with the falling of the last leaf of the vine that stands outside her window. Behrman likes his neighbors, Sue and Johnsy, and has taken it upon himself to take care of them. Thus, Behrman is presented as a caring neighbor, who lives a poor life because he refuses to take the initiative to make good paintings. He drinks possibly to escape from his failures and the misery of his poor life, yet all this does not kill his kindness. Towards the end of the story, it is revealed that Behrman dies from pneumonia that he catches while painting the last leaf of the vine; the last leaf that gives Johnsy the desire to fight for her life.
