Alexander the Great, who lived from 356 BCE to 323 BCE, was a king of the ancient kingdoms of Macedonia and, later, Persia. Alexander is known as one of the great military strategists of the ancient world. In fifteen years of military leadership, he never lost a battle, and his strategies and tactics are still studied today. In addition to being a shrewd military commander, he was renowned for his courage in battle. Alexander the Great was also a charismatic leader who was able to inspire great loyalty among his troops. He was endlessly ambitious, and though he succeeded in conquering much of the known world at the time (including Persia and India), he died at just thirty-two years old before he was able to move on to Arabia.
