Why does Herman E. Calloway call his house Grand Calloway Station?

The name of Herman E. Calloway's house is a reference to Grand Central Station in New York. His house is pretty much an open house, with various people coming and going at all hours of the day and night. It's a very busy place most of the time, just like Grand Central Station. This is the kind of lifestyle that jazz musicians often lead; playing jazz is not a regular nine-to-five job. As the bandleader of the Dusky Devastators of the Depression, Herman is the guy that people with some involvement with the local jazz scene will inevitably gravitate towards. Aspiring musicians from out of town are especially likely to beat a path to Herman's door, begging for the opportunity to play in his band.
