Dr. Stronetz, a trusted friend and personal physician to Prince Dimitri, plays a crucial role in foiling the assassination plot against the prince. Knowing that the prince has been rendered defenseless without his regiment and horrified by the thought that he might suffer such a brutal end at the hands of his enemies, the doctor offers Dimitri a kindler, quicker death alternative: poison. After Dimitri refuses and his would-be murderers arrive, the quick-thinking doctor stays his execution by telling the assassins that the prince has a terminal heart condition and will be dead in less than a week. Unfortunately for Dimitri, the doctor’s story proves to be true. Now, faced with the inevitable, the prince realizes that his friend has given him both the means to a peaceful death and the ultimate weapon to use against his enemies. He offers them wine laced with the poison and then, drinks it himself. Although Prince Dimitri dies, thanks to Dr. Stronetz, he dies with honor and defeats his enemies in the process.
