What does Beatty criticize about schools, universities, and printed material? To what extent are these criticisms true for today’s world?

Firstly, he accuses printed material of being offensive to minority groups. As the population dramatically increased, the number of minorities also increased. According to Beatty, authors were "full of evil thoughts" and wrote books which stepped on the toes of these minorities.
Secondly, he accuses education of not equipping young people with the job skills that they need. Instead of teaching young people to press buttons and pull switches, education focused only on intellectual subjects, like philosophy and languages. For Beatty, these subjects are pointless and actually create "melancholy" because people have too much time and opportunity to think about deeper issues.
Such criticisms could still be made about today's world because we focus heavily on academic subjects and intellectual pursuits. However, as we see through the character of Mildred, censoring education only leads to misery. As such, Beatty's criticisms of education and printed material are not valid, because they do not consider the long-term impact on the individual.
