Why was Romanticism a sort of rebellion against Classicism? How did the rebellion manifest in works of artists, writers, and composers?

Romanticism was a reaction against the Classicism of the Enlightenment. Classicism emphasized reason and order, while Romanticism emphasized emotion and inspiration. Romanticism sought inspiration from nature, from the beauty and individuality of the countryside, and from the innocence and vibrancy of children. Romantics felt that the industrialized, adult world obliterated this sense of emotion and truth. Romantic writers such as Wordsworth and Blake wrote poetry that was inspired by emotion, often brought about by nature. While Classicism emphasized progress, Romanticism prized a return to the innocence of youth and the idiosyncrasy of nature. Romantic composers such as Schumann also wrote pieces that attempted to capture the innocence of children. Romantic artists such as Delacroix and Blake sought to convey emotion and sensation in their works, and they abandoned the formal compositions of Classicism.
