Based on the wording of the question, I believe that it does not have any particular theory in mind. The term "theory" is often misunderstood by the general public. Generally, people assume that a theory is just a throwaway idea of sorts. Scientifically, that is quite far from the truth. A scientific theory most definitely has a plethora of evidence to support the theory. The theory probably began as a hypothesis. That hypothesis was then tested and supported many times over, and then it moves on to become a theory and is a valid explanation of a phenomenon. Based on this, scientific theories have the following characteristics.
Theories are supported by facts
Theories are supported by observation
Theories are subject to change and modification as new observations and evidence are brought forward
Theories can be proven or rejected
