How was Helen named?

Helen's parents disagreed over what to call their daughter. Her father originally wanted to name her Mildred Campbell, after a distant ancestor of his. For her part, however, Mrs. Keller wanted to name her daughter Helen Everett, after her grandmother's maiden name. As Helen's father wasn't actively involved in giving a name to his new child, he forgot the name his wife had chosen when it came to the christening ceremony. The only thing he could remember was that his daughter was to be named after her grandmother. So at the church that day, Mr. and Mrs. Keller's daughter was christened Helen Keller, the name by which she was subsequently known the world over, and by which she remains known to this day.
