What do the Socs do after Ponyboy is jumped?

You can read all about the incident in chapter 1 of the book. Ponyboy is walking home alone when five Socs jump him. The Socs pull up in a Corvair. After they exit the car, they threaten to cut off Ponyboy's long hair. When Ponyboy tries to back off, the Socs grab him and pin him down. One of the Socs sits on Ponyboy's chest and rams his knees into Ponyboy's elbows. This is a painful position for Ponyboy to be in, but he is powerless to move.
Eventually, one of the Socs holds a knife to Ponyboy's throat. This frightens Ponyboy so badly that he begins screaming. Meanwhile, one of his assailants puts his hand over Ponyboy's mouth to stop him from alerting passersby. By now, Ponyboy is in a panicked state, and he promptly bites the hand that is held over his mouth. When Ponyboy continues screaming, someone stuffs a handkerchief into his mouth.
The Socs are eventually pulled off Ponyboy when Greasers come on the scene. Because of the struggle, Ponyboy sustains some minor injuries. Eventually, Ponyboy's fellow Greasers attack the Socs and pull them off Ponyboy.
Four Greasers then chase the Socs to their car and throw rocks at them. Not long after, the Socs drive off, leaving the Greasers to themselves.
