Intermediate Algebra, Chapter 2, 2.4, Section 2.4, Problem 20

Suppose that in a racing event, LaShawn Merritt of USA covers a distance of $400$ meters in $43.75$ seconds.
Recall that the rate or speed is given by $\displaystyle v = \frac{d}{t} = \frac{\rm{distance}}{\rm{time}}$
So, we have
$\displaystyle v = \frac{400}{43.75} = 9.1429$
When rounded off to the nearest hundredth, then the rate in this case is $\displaystyle 9.14 \frac{\rm{m}}{\rm{s}}$
